Two quick things...
Hey all!
Two quick questions...
(1) Do we really need R. Kelly writing and performing a tribute song to the victims of the Virginia Tech nightmare?
(2) I'd like to create a "Greatest Hits" section on "I Totally Hear That." Which posts on this blog do you think merit 'best of' status? I know... I know... all of them. But if you had to choose just a few, which would the be?

Hi Mark,
I've only recently stumbled onto your blog, as I'm thinking a lot of people have with all the exposure you've been getting lately, so can't really contribute to your "Greatest Hits". I'd like to say though that this blog is great! It's insightful to read, and I particularly loved your post on Maroon 5's lead singer and the new sex.c. groove he has going on.
I've recently been really stupified about the song "Runaway Love" by Ludacris and how the public could possibly be eating up some bullcrap song preaching to kids (supposedly under the age of 12) to run away instead of getting the right help. What the hell kind of chance does a 9 year old from a broken home have in the outside world by herself?? Just 'cos it's got a ctachy tune, doesn't justify it at all as being on the New Zealand (where I live) charts right now. I would love to read your thoughts on it.
Hey Mark,
I will admitt to suffering through R. Kelly's 16 part mini-series entitled "Trapped in the Closet"... and perhaps that is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the R&B singer who allegedly had sexual relations with a minor. However, lets not forget some of the good tunes R. Kelly churned out way back when (way before "I'm a Flirt")... theres the ever inspirational "World's Greatest", Space Jam hit "I Can Fly", and who can forget the "Ignition (remix)" amung others. Yes he has messed up a few times, and this move is probably only to promote his upcoming album... but maybe we should give him a chance.
Hi Jenny! Thanks so much for reading. And I'll give some thought to the "Runaway" question. I've got another Ludacris post that you may want to check out in the meantime.
And I totally take your point, Cassy, that maybe R. Kelly deserves another shot. I just... hmm... I just think I can't get past my frustration about how he was accused of doing gross things to children and then released songs about his sexual prowess. (I wrote about *that* in an earlier post, too).
Also, I'm generally suspicious of charity singles, and all this "Idol Gives Back" stuff this week has put me on red alert. We hear about all this money being raised, but then we never get the follow up about how the funds have been used. That's the one thing I always really liked about Farm Aid. They showed you where the money had gone.
But watch me love the R. Kelly song.
